List of all the NavIC supported Smartphone Processors
NavIC support in smartphones is becoming increasingly important, as the Indian government is looking to make it mandatory for all new phones sold in India to have NavIC support.
NavIC is India’s own regional navigation satellite system. The Indian government decided to develop its own GPS system after the Kargil war between India and Pakistan in 1999, when the United States denied the access of GPS to the Indian Army.
Qualcomm, MediaTek, Kirin (Huawei) and Tensor (Google) are the top smartphone chipset brands that have NavIC-enabled chipsets.
In this blog post, we will take a look at all of the NavIC supported phone processors that are currently available in the market.

What is NavIC?
NavIC is India’s home-developed real-time navigation system, developed by ISRO. It stands for Navigation with Indian Constellation. NavIC uses dual frequencies(L and S band) that makes it less power consuming and more accurate than single frequency navigation systems like GPS.
The NavIC constellation has 7 active satellites. Of the seven satellites, four are fully functional and three are experiencing partial failures. The system needs only 4 satellites for active functioning.
ISRO has already laid out plans for a second-generation NavIC system that consists of 5 satellites. The first satellite of the second-generation system NVS-01 was already deployed on 29 May, 2023 and working fluidly.
NavIC currently provides navigation system in India and 1500km of area surrounding the borders and Indian Ocean. As per 2021 draft policy, ISRO and Department of Space is working on increasing its coverage area globally.

Why do some phones with NavIC-compatible chipsets not support NavIC?
- Hardware limitations: Some phones may have hardware limitations that prevent them from supporting NavIC. For example, the phone’s navigation signal receiver may not be compatible with NavIC’s signals.
- Software constraints: In some cases, the phone’s software may prevent it from supporting NavIC, even if the hardware is compatible. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as geo-location restrictions or any other technical challenge.
If you’re buying a new phone and you want to make sure it supports NavIC, be sure to check the phone’s specifications carefully.
